  8. I can't believe they did it like that, NBC can't be *that* stupid TWICE.

  10. In 1969 NBC decided to cut the original Star Trek from the air. They said
  11. it was due to falling "ratings". Does nobody out there is TV land realize
  12. that science-fiction tends to appeal more to the minority than the
  13. majority.

  15. There are a core of SF fans who loved these programs (Star Trek & Quantum
  16. Leap) that were/have been betrayed.  TV networks only really like the sort
  17. of TV that I /personally/ consider dross - the soap opera.  These soaps are
  18. overflowing from our screens and, for the most part, are exceedingly dull
  19. and their writers have to continually think up new and even more far-out
  20. stories to compete with each other.  Soaps are a "safe" bet for networks
  21. because of the sheer number of people who will watch them.

  23. It appears to me that quality has nothing to do with whether a show remains
  24. on air or not - just the viewing figures.

  26. I found Quantum Leap an original, imaginative, often thought-provoking and
  27. entertaining show and I'm sure there are many more who agree with me.

  29. You would think that NBC would have learned their lesson with Star Trek -
  30. but no!. To my knowledge the makers of Quantum Leap are looking around for
  31. a new buyer to continue the show - I hope they find one.

  33. Anyway, I've said my bit so I'm going away to grind and nash my teeth for a
  34. few more hours.
